Job Description

Senior Software Engineer - Platforms - Primefocus Health

Primefocus Health is a seed‑stage healthtech startup headquartered in San Francisco, launched as a venture spin‑out from LG Electronics’ North America Innovation Center. We’re building an innovative technology platform that enables healthcare providers and hospitals to create customized remote patient management solutions for chronic conditions. Our mission is to transform how healthcare providers deliver remote care, making it more efficient and personalized for each patient’s needs, with a particular emphasis on improving healthcare access in underserved and rural communities.

Primefocus Health has been made aware of a phishing scam where con artists are posing as recruiters or hiring managers for prominent companies using email, text messages and social media to access personal information of potential applicants. In this scam, fake recruiters are creating misleading email addresses, conducting remote interviews and extending fraudulent job offers to collect personal and financial information. This type of fraud is normally carried out through online services such as fake websites or through fake email addresses claiming to be from the company. Here’s what you should know to help protect your information from scammers: Authentic email addresses use the primefocushealth.com domain. Always take precautions when sharing personal information. We will never require personal banking information in the recruiting/interview process. We will never require an application processing fee or require other payment for recruiting services. We encourage you to apply for open roles directly through our site.

Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our growing engineering team and lead the development of foundational components of our platform. This is a senior technical role with significant ownership over backend services, system design, and secure, scalable infrastructure. You will collaborate closely with experienced developers and cross‑functional teams to build robust solutions that power remote patient management. This position reports to the VP of Engineering and offers the opportunity to drive architectural decisions and shape platform direction.

Work Setting

This is a full‑time hybrid position based in New York, California, or Illinois, with onsite presence as determined by the manager. Candidates should expect periodic in‑person collaboration, and occasional travel (up to 15%) may be required across West Virginia, California, New York, or Illinois for customer visits, team offsites, or industry events.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design, development, testing, and deployment of backend services and platform features
  • Build and maintain microservices using Java Spring Boot and RESTful APIs
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve performance or security issues across the stack
  • Participate in sprint planning, estimation, retrospectives, and daily standups
  • Lead or participate in peer code reviews to ensure high‑quality standards
  • Maintain technical documentation on systems, APIs, and development workflows
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with engineering, product, design, and security teams
  • Support implementation of secure coding and HIPAA‑compliant development practices

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 4+ years of hands‑on software development experience, including microservice architecture and RESTful APIs using Java Spring Boot
  • Experience designing and maintaining backend platform components (e.g., identity management, asset management, notifications, ETL)
  • Proficiency in both SQL and NoSQL database systems
  • Familiarity with Git‑based version control, CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab), and container orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience working with sensitive data (ePHI, PII) in HIPAA/HITECH‑compliant environments, and proficiency in at least one additional programming language (e.g., Python or C++)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced startup environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and work independently
  • Experience participating in security audits or compliance reviews

Compensation

Total compensation for this role is expected to fall within the range of $120,000 to $150,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and alignment with the responsibilities outlined. Additional equity and performance‑based incentives may be available.

We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package designed to support your well‑being and growth. Benefits include:

  • Equity participation in the company’s growth
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Professional development stipend and certification support
  • Flexible hybrid work arrangements and PTO
  • Home office setup allowance
  • Opportunities for advancement and learning through mentorship
