Mortgage Loan Originator

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Supports Heart of Louisiana's mission and values. Shows professionalism, empathy and respect in all interactions with members, interna and external.
Exceptional communication, organizational and time management skills are a must.
Ability to work independently and manage a diverse workload.
Recommends and develops process improvements and procedures to enhance productivity and improve service.
Maintains knowledge of regulations appropriate for position, (i.e., Regulation Z and X, RESPA, Safe Act, HMDA etc.), and attends all training as it relates to position related regulations.
Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively with other employees. Maintains open and respectful communication with other departments.
Responsible for personal development through training, collaboration, and teamwork.
Performance Measurements:
1. Interviews, takes applications, gathers information, and processes preliminary documentation on in-house and secondary market mortgage loans (Purchase, Refinance, Construction, USDA, FHA & VA) requests.
2. Review loan applications and credit reports to assess member's ability to repay. Decisions loans within loan authority limits and communicates the decision to members.
3. Adheres to lending guidelines and regulations to ensure that decisions are compliant.
4. Deliver accurate compliance documents and disclosures to meet all regulatory guidelines.
5. Remain current with credit union's underwriting policies.
6. Prepare member(s) for the loan process and keep all parties involved in the process and up to date on the status of the loan.
7. Coordinate closing with member(s), closing agent, realtors and other involved in the transaction.
8. Establish escrow accounts for taxes, homeowner's insurance, and flood insurance (if applicable) for mortgage loans.
9. Manage the sale of mortgage loans to secondary market and ensure guidelines are followed, and all pricing and delivery deadlines are met.
10. Provide benefit awareness and other credit union products and services as appropriate to meet member's needs while providing exceptional member service.
11. Achieve assigned individual goals and manages all loans in the pipeline from application to closing.
12. Perform other related duties as assigned.
13. Follow up with members to resolve any issues in a timely manner.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience:
At least five years of experience in mortgage lending. Must be registered with NMLS.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in business administration and/or finance. MLO preferred.
Interpersonal Skills:
Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
Other Skills:
Experience with Encompass and/or Meridianlink Mortgage LOS preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Work requires sitting for the majority of the day. Work also requires occasional lifting of up to 36 pounds. Occasional bending, squatting reaching and kneeling to access credit union records.
